early childhood

The Ann Arbor YMCA's full-day nationally accredited Early Childhood Program focuses on providing a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive.  Our trained staff guide children through an age-appropriate curriculum that develops self-help skills and instills the Y values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.  Since 2008, our Early Childhood Program has been accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children, or NAEYC.

Our All-Stars classroom is for children ages 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years.  Our Aviators classrom is for children ages 3 ½  to 5 years. Our Early Childhood Program is open Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Daily planned lessons include centers focusing on creative expression, sensory exploration, language experiences, and opportunities for age-appropriate physical activities. Our classrooms invite children to make free-choice selections throughout the day with an emphasis on dramatic play, manipulative activities, block play, and transportation examination. Children are encouraged to develop self-help skills that foster independence and a positive self-image.

The Aviator program includes twice-weekly swimming lessons. Swim instructors and classroom teachers work with kids on swimming skills and give them time for free play in the pool. For more information about our Early Childhood Program, please contact the Child Care Office at 734-661-8058.
