getting started

If you’ve just joined the YMCA, our wellness center staff can help you get started. Whether you’re interested in signing up for a class, using equipment on the wellness floor, or getting to know other members, we’re here to help!

New member classes
The YMCA offers several classes to help you set goals and get started on a fitness program.  Two classes that can help you get started are:

Success 101
Get the most out of your YMCA membership!  Attend a FREE Success 101 Workshop.  This one-hour, interactive workshop is designed to help you get motivated, learn what the YMCA has to offer, and set S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, measurable, Active, Realistic, Timely) fitness goals.  We offer Success 101 workshops several times each week.  Just sign up in the registration binder at the membership desk, or call to register at (734) 996-9622.

Workout 101
This class is great for members who aren’t sure of where to begin. Workout 101 will introduce you to a variety of exercise themes like pilates, yoga and cycling, and expose you to the cardio and strength equipment on the wellness floor. Each workout is different from the last and will inspire you to try something new! Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

For questions about these programs and others, please contact Jen Nicodemus, Health & Wellness Coordinator, at 661-8043 or jnicodemus[at]annarborymca.org.

Wellness Center Orientation
All members are encouraged to have an orientation to the exercise equipment.  During this orientation, a wellness floor staff member can:

• Take you through the cardiovascular and Cybex weight circuit equipment
• Show you how to use it all safely and effectively
• Help you find your personal settings on each machine
• Answer your general fitness questions

Wellness floor staff members are often available to give you a full orientation without a reservation, but if you’d like to reserve an orientation time, which is recommended, you can stop by the Member Desk in the main lobby, or call (734) 996-9622.
