Ann Arbor YMCA offers HSI training and certification in First Aid, CPR and AED in Washtenaw and Southern Livingston County to ages 12 and above. Our certified instructors are here to prepare you and your workplace with the essential skills needed to help with cardiac arrest, workplace injuries, or safety emergencies.
CPR Facts and Statistics
- According to a report from the US Occupational Safety & Health Administration, about 10,000 cardiac arrests happen in the workplace in the U.S. each year.
- Immediate CPR may double or triple the chance of survival from an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
- The sooner an AED is used the higher the chance of survival.
- A sudden cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival reduces by 7% to 10% every minute that an AED is not used.

Certification Course Structure
Certification courses are hybrid, with a series of virtual and video trainings followed by a hands-on skills assessment and test. Our hands-on assessments are available at our downtown Ann Arbor facility or on-site at your business location.
Virtual Course
- Prior to the in-person skills assessment, attendees will watch a series of educational and instructional videos (totaling 3-5 hours) followed by a quiz.
In-Person Assessment
- Review topics from the virtual course and get hands-on skill assessment for compressions, rescue breaths, and infant/adult AED application and use.
