Adult Basketball League – Winter
At the Y, our 5 v 5 recreational basketball league is all about having fun and meeting new people! Players sign up individually, and we assign teams that can be competitive with one another. Each game is 40 minutes long, broken into 2 20-minute halves. All games are self-refereed and standings and stats are recorded. All players must be 18 or over. 5 game regular season followed by a two-game playoff (Games at 1:00 or 2:00pm. Teammate requests welcome).

Better Feet, Gait and Balance: A Pilates Workshop
Move More. Move Better. Movement Matters.
Join this class to learn about the tools and resources that are essential for gait, balance, stance, mobility, and getting in touch with our toes, feet, and ankles. Gwyn will introduce us to the 26 bones, 33 joints and hundreds of muscles, tendons, and ligaments in our feet ? and during the session we will move, stretch, and strengthen all of them. Gwyn will help you understand the importance of how healthy feet can improve our gait, balance, and movement patterns. Alignment and natural movements are the foundation of this workshop, with options for all fitness levels to participate.

Bring a Book, Take a Book-Sorting Event
We’re excited to invite you to a super fun and impactful event with YVC (Youth Volunteer Corps)! We’re hosting a Book Sorting event, and we need YOUR help to make it a success.
This is a great opportunity to gain valuable volunteer experience while making a difference in your community! We?ll be sorting books for donation, and it?s a chance for you to give back, meet new people, and have fun.
Not only will you be helping others, but you?ll also have the chance to bring a book and take a book ? refresh your own collection while sharing the love of reading!

Open Play Gymnastics
The YMCA Open Play Gymnastics is a designated time where athletes have the opportunity to come in and use the equipment to freely work on their skills, or simply have fun playing in the gym with friends. This is beneficial for children who may not want to do gymnastics in a structured class environment, but still want to utilize the equipment and try new skills.
Coaches will be present to help monitor, and parents are responsible for staying the hour to monitoring their athletes as well.

Red Cross Lifeguard Class – February 28th-March 2nd
Prerequisite skills needed to begin the course:
Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:
– Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed)
– Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs
– Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both
Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
– Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed).
– Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
– Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
– Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
A swim assessment will be conducted on the first day of class to ensure all participants are able to complete the skills listed above.
Certifications you will receive in this course:
– American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR

Must be present for ALL listed dates and times.
Registration by Friday, February 14 is required, so students may complete all online e-learning prior to the start of class. Please make sure to include the email of the participant of the class. If we do not have this information, we will not be able to communicate all of the necessary information for the class.
If the e-learnings are not completed prior to the first day of class, you will not be able to participate in the course and you will not receive a refund.

Winter Indoor Track Season- Bowen Fieldhouse (EMU)
Practices Mondays 7:30 – 9:00pm, Wednesdays 6:00 – 8:00pm and Thursdays 7:30 – 9:00pm at Bowen Fieldhouse (Eastern Michigan) Athletes will also have the opportunity to compete in local, regional and national meets. Experienced coaches and volunteers will work with your children in various disciplines of indoor track and field. Program begins January 6th
