GD Prodigy and the Ann Arbor YMCA are teaming up for another year and are offering a team for 8th graders this spring/summer! This is a competitive, local travel Basketball program for kids looking to take the next step or continuing their journey in a competitive basketball environment.

Registration for the tryout is free and mandatory to attend. Registering for this program does not mean you are on the team. Cuts will be made within a week of the tryout date.

Team Details:
Tryout date is March 9th @9:00am. The fee to join the team is TBD; this includes tournaments, a jersey and two practices per week. The team practice details are still being determined. Tournament Schedule is still being determined. The season will run from March through July.

At the Y, our 5 v 5 recreational basketball league is all about having fun and meeting new people!

– Register Individually
– Teammate Requests welcomed
– Ages 18+
– Games beginning at 1:00pm
– Two 20-minute halves
– Self Refereed
– Evaluation Scrimmage on first week.

Our Spring session is 11 weeks long, however only 8 weeks of gameplay due to Easter, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day all falling within our Spring Season. That being said, there will be no games on the following dates;

YMCA Futsal is played 5v5 on basketball-sized courts without the use of sidewalls. All levels of players are welcome. Players sign up individually, and we assign teams that can be competitive with one another. Teammate requests are welcomed. While games are self-refereed, Y staff are on hand to track scores and standings. Each game is 40 minutes long, consisting of two 20-minute halves. Games are played on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 or 8:00pm. Each player receives a YMCA Futsal League shirt. 6-game regular season followed by a playoff. The first week will be used as an evaluation scrimmage to form even teams.

For Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced ages 12 and above. Students learn self-defense and develop balance, fitness, coordination, self-confidence and discipline through practice of basic techniques and forms.

In the swim basics class students will learn personal water safety while achieving basic swimming competency by developing comfort underwater, focusing on body position, forward movement, and endurance. This class is for beginner swimmers and will take place in the lap pool.

The advanced fencing course is aimed at preparing students as if for USFA or collegiate competition. The whole repertoire of foil techniques and the basics of sabre and epee will be explored. Students will also gain experience using electrical scoring in all three weapons, as well as refereeing. Visits by guest instructors and advanced fencers will enrich the experience. If the schedule permits, a field trip to a USFA tournament will be offered.
Requirements:
-A desire to excel
-For current Ann Arbor Y Intermediate Students, recommendation by their instructor.
-Others must have 4 years experience/class instruction in modern fencing (or two years of private lessons), and demonstrate competence in modern foil, sabre or epee.
